A study conducted by proxy service provider SOAX’s data specialists concluded that the healthcare sector is most at risk for a cyberattack. For the study, the UK-based data collection solution company SOAX examined data violation incident figures from the Identity Theft Resource Center by industry from 2020 through 2023.
The study found that the top two industries at risk are healthcare and financial services. In 2023, the healthcare sector had 809 data violation cases, up from 343 cases in 2022. Data revealed that 56 million victims were affected in the healthcare sector.
Stepan Solovev, CEO of SOAX, said in a statement: “The study has identified a concerningly sharp rise in cyber incidents across all US industries in 2023, which is particularly alarming, especially within the healthcare and financial services industries. These sectors store vast amounts of sensitive information, making them lucrative targets for cybercriminals.”
“The increase in attacks demonstrates that cybercriminals pose an increasing threat. Industries must adapt and evolve with these technological advancements to ensure they are protected from cyberattacks,” Solovev added.
